"Two Mystic Chorales"

Mystic Chorale I

I thought the chorale I wrote in Sonata in Mixolydian would be nice to hear as a stand-alone work. The quintet I was a member of at the time I composed this was working feverishly on the Nielson Quintet in preparation for a performance. I figured that adding in a little quote from that piece couldn't hurt at all.

Mystic Chorale II

As with the first chorale, I added in a quote from a famous piece of quintet music. This time, I quoted the third movement of the Ligeti Six Bagatelles. The theme for the chorale itself is much different from the theme in Chorale I, being much more stately and almost militaristic.
