Thanks to the efforts of Charles-David Lehrer and IDRS Online, oboists and bassoonists have a new resource to tap when looking for new music. To help bring these recently rediscovered oboe pieces out into the eyes and ears of the playing community, I've decided to dedicate time and effort to providing recordings of these works. Right now, with my limited resources, the best I can manage is videos shot in my home and the accompaniment of my MIDI keyboard playing Finale files. Hopefully, this will change, but in the meantime, I will hope that your attention will be directed toward the music and its potential. Also, these links will take you to MySpace video pages, if you should run into problems with playing the videos, please let me know right away so I can address them. Thank you.
This work is one of two collected oboe concerti written by this very prolific Classical composer. The F Major Concerto is a really lively work that I've very much enjoyed preparing for this recording. In fact, it was one of three pieces I'd fallen in love with immediately when I first learned about the Double Reed Archaeologist collection. Note: Each of the three movements DOES have a cadenza moment, but due to the accompaniment setup I have, I've just "glossed over" those measures. Also, the coda sections of the outer movements are fairly lengthy and so I decided to do a little improvisation based on the orchestral material to finish those movements out (...and maybe make up for the missing cadenzas a little bit).
