Some Musicians Outside of Pensacola

Links to some known oboists...

Anthony Camden

Former Principal Oboist of the London Symphony Orchestra. Now he's the Dean of Music for the Hong Kong Academy of the Arts.

Holly Gornik

The current English Hornist of the Utah Symphony.

Eugene Izotov

Principal Oboist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and an active soloist. He's only two years older than I am! (Man, what am I doing making this website!? I need to go practice!)

Nancy Ambrose King

A well-established and phenomonal solo artist who runs the Fernand Gillet oboe competition for the International Double Reed Society.

Alex Klein

Another truly astounding musician, and the former principal oboist of the Chicago Symphony! (I find it interesting that he was primarily a soloist until he was given the CSO job.)

Jacquline LeClair

Another very fine oboist in the Manhattan area who has some very interesting oboe teaching publications for sale.

Patty Mitchell

Patty has been an oboist and teacher for some time in the San Jose area. She's been collecting the oboe and bassoon rosters of all the pro orchestras in the world! Quite an undertaking! Visit her site and see where the established double-reeders are!

Joseph Robinson

The world renowned NY Philharmonic Principal Oboist and a very generous patron of the arts.

Marion Whittow

British oboist, teacher, and musical cartoonist with a very impressive resume who sells oboe-related gift items on her website. Here, you can purchase copies of her books about oboe playing and (interestingly) wine making!.

Note: You can click on the links to piece names for an excerpt of the PSO concert they joined us for... naturally, it'll be a section I'm playing in too! :-)

Eric Ewazen

Mr. Ewazen is a composer whose music I've performed on several occasions. His style is very similar to the sort of music you'd hear in a movie soundtrack and, by his own admission, is quite programmatic! (note: I performed his oboe concerto "Down a River of Time" in November of 2001, effectively giving the Florida premiere of the work!)

Karen Gomyo

An extrordinary violinist who played the heck out of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in November of 2006!

David E. Keen

Violinist, bassist, and composer. He's also one of the two people for whom I wrote my Concerto in One Movement. Check out his site!

Jon Kimura Parker

An amazing pianist who came to Pensacola in January of 2005 to perform Beethoven's massive "Emperor" Piano Concerto. His mother in law is the legendary oboist Laila Storch, incidentally.

Antonio Pompa-Baldi

An outstanding pianist who came to Pensacola in October of 2006 to perform Brahms' First Piano Concerto.

Norman Krieger

Originally slated to come to Pensacola in September of 2004, but detained due to Hurricane Ivan, he came instead for our first concert of the 2005-06 season and performed Liszt's First Piano Concerto! Well worth the wait to hear him do it!

Note: Those of you who are familiar with this piece will notice a big cut in this excerpt... I promise that there was no cut in the performances... I just wanted to give "our" highlights :-)

Valentina Lisitsa

A terrific pianist who, in April of 2004, graced Pensacola with her dazzling virtuosity on Ravel's Piano Concerto in G.

Jon Nakamatsu

An astounding pianist who, in a marvelous display of skill, performed Rachmaninov's 3rd Concerto with the Pensacola Symphony in January of 2002. (That was also the first concert I played as the PSO's official Principal Oboist!)

Livia Sohn

A great violin soloist who came to Pensacola in April of 2003 and performed a very beautiful and passionate rendition of Beethoven's Concerto.

Lara St. John

An incredible violin soloist who performed Mendelssohn's famous E Minor Concerto and Waxman's "Carmen Fantasy" with the Pensacola Symphony in November of 2003. After hearing her perform, I decided to write Caprice Number One.
